Welcome Colleen! Posted 3.13.2017

Colleen Ishimaru is never happier than when she is serving the Lord. Whether it is with the YMCA or Child Evangelism Fellowship or with a local church, she has been privileged to share her passion for the evangelism and discipleship of the next generation.  She got started to that end at Journey of Faith in Manhattan Beach – then, known as Community Baptist Church, where she and her husband, Si were married. Together they raised 7 children – sort of a his, hers and theirs combination, all of who came to know the Lord at Journey of Faith.

She and Si served at Journey in the children’s, missions, worship and deaconate ministries for more than 10 years. Together they also served in the local South Bay Child Evangelism Fellowship chapter, having led a Good News Club for the South Bay Evangelical Free Church for a while. Later, they also served on staff with CEF in Santa Barbara then finally, San Francisco.

Sadly, Si was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2014. Because Colleen was also caring for her mother, who has Alzheimer’s, she decided to take a part-time position with Golden Gate Christian Church (GGCC), also in San Francisco so that she could spend more time at home. Last year, less than a week after Easter, God called Si home. Colleen is blessed to have been able to serve with him for so many years in ministry.

She’s thrilled that her youngest son, Michael, has picked up the mantle and has been serving at GGCC along with her these last couple of years, primarily as the Awana Game Director. Besides Michael, she has a twin son and daughter, Leland and Adrienne and her daughter, Lauren. From Si, she is a proud stepmother/grandmother to Tom, Carol, Michelle, Amanda, Justin, John, Ryan and Brielle.

Colleen graduated from Hawthorne High School, proud to tell everyone that it is the same high school from which the Beach Boys hail, though they are much older! She received her degree in professional studies from Biola University and is a graduate of the Children’s Ministries Institute.

She and her family are huge Disney fans. You will probably find her there on days she isn’t at church! Yes, she has an annual pass! And it’s on her bucket list is to do a Disney cruise or spend a week at the Aulani resort.

Colleen is more than thrilled to be coming to Peninsula. She feels blessed to come “home” to the South Bay. She has a passion for people, especially the “short ones” and wants them to each have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. She also wants to train them to serve Him, because though she wants to put in many years here, she knows someone needs to eventually replace her.
