Sunday night we enjoyed an update from the Waxe people of Papua New Guinea (PNG). Greg and Laura Melendes were with us and shared fresh stories of the struggles and victories of the church in the Sepik River region of PNG. Greg is just returning from seven weeks of intensive ministry in the region, where he worked and reworked the initial translation of the Gospel of Luke into the local language. There is probably another six months of work to do on that translation before it is ready for distribution in PNG. After that book is completed, he still has some cleanup work on Matthew and John. And then? And then 2 Corinthians, apparently the most difficult of all books in the New Testament to translate.
But the good news from Sunday night is that the churches in that area are healthy, growing in grace, and continue to be faithful to our God. Greg and Laura return this week to Colorado Springs to continue to refine the Luke translation and prepare further materials to help with literacy in the region.
God is doing a great work. Continue to pray for Greg and Laura, that the task of completing the translation of the New Testament will be swift and surrounded by the presence of the Spirit. Praise God for two godly saints, who have given their lives that the Waxe people might enjoy eternal life. To God be the glory!
