The construction of the well has officially been completed! We put the finishing touches on this morning including adding the pump itself to the well opening. At 10:30 AM we had a well dedication ceremony where the members of the community were invited out for a special time together. While I'm sure I'll not be able to capture all the elements, it was a very special moment. The ladies of the community were dressed in their "Sunday best" for the event, signfying it's importance to the community. New pictures are here. The "presidente" of the community shared his t...
A well timed work day

We're one day away from a complete well here in the community of Santa Ana in Saba, Honduras. It was a bit of a slower day work site wise, which was great in the flow of our week because we had a few team members with some, um, stomach disturbances. So we had the gatorade flowing and some extra rest time for those that needed to get hydated. Everyone is feeling pretty good tonight. At the well site, we took out the pump that was flushing the well out overnight. We also filled the outside of the well casing with concrete and then filled in the mud pits back in. The locals worked at mixing the cement on the ground - think when you were a kid and made the mashed potato volcano - they make...

Today was good but a tough, long day. We returned and jumped back into the well drilling. We added the reamer (a bigger drill bit) and went back down to 75 feet again. We were supposed to quickly pull up each five foot length of pipe and remove them (see the pics for a picture of our guys "breaking" the pipe, which is loosening it), and then quickly add the 7" PVC piping as the main casing for the well. The only problem is that we hit a few larger rocks and were stuck at 30 feet or so for about ten minutes before the bit was loosened and we could bring the drill bit back up. Therefore, we had to put a much larger bit (which we referred to as the "rock crusher" bit) and then drill bac...

We're going to sleep well tonight

We had quite the day today! After breakfast and devotions we headed out our well site, which was only a quick ten minute ride from the hotel. The village we are working in is called Santa Ana, more of a small neighborhood with a one room schoolhouse and about 30 simple homes. We began with getting the well equipment all set up and in place while the hygiene team went around and spread the word about the training time. Some of the men from the neighborhood were out to help with the well project, too. We learned pretty quickly that there are quite a few steps to the process of drilling a well, but the LWI team does a great job of not giving us too much to worry about at a time and breaking up ...

We are here in Saba, Honduras. We just finished up dinner here at our hotel in Saba. We attended church this morning. We are getting a little restless waiting to get to the site so we are all very excited. Honduras is beautiful, very green and warm. We learned a lot of terms and overview tonight of what the process of using the rig to operate the drill under the supervision of the living water staff, who are all Hondurans, but it's tough to envision the process exactly. I'll be posting a few pictures in a little while. The LWI team has take very good care of us and everything has run smoothly so far. Pray for us to connect with the people in a warm and inviting way tomorrow. Everyone ...

This year, we have attempted to change the world through Christmas. So far (through December 18) we have collected $4,827.00 to be used for water and medicine around the world. The initial estimate for the repair of the water well at Mercy's Village (Gulu, Uganda) was $3,000. If that holds up, we will be able to completely fund that water project, make sure that the Honduras water project is fully funded, AND begin to fund a surgical center in Bombo, Uganda for our annual medical clinic. Christmas is changing us. Christmas is changing our world. Come and worship the King this weekend, Saturday at 5:30 pm or Sunday at 10:30 am. Celebrate all the goodness of God! ...

Have you seen it yet? It's on the website and here's a link to BOMO MEDICAL CLINIC 2011. Watch what God did -- and is doing -- through your faithfullness to support the annual medical outreach clinic in Bombo, Uganda.
